Day 3: The long and the short of it

On official day 3, I decided to change white shirt and go for a more sophisticated-ish look. Today's style inspiration was Olivia Palermo - although I've never watched The City, I'm a big fan of her fashion choices. I saw a shirt+maxi skirt combo and gave it a go...

White Shirt Outfit of the Day:
  • White shirt from Next
  • Sunglasses from River Island
  • Maxi dress (couldn't find a skirt) from a London market stall - £10 bargain!
White shirt tip: roll your sleeves up! Its more flattering, and you can get your hands dirty! Less office mum, more Olivia P ;)

Until next time,

Day 2: When life gives you lemons...

Day 2, and today I thought I'd go for a more summery look. Channelling Mad Men shaped dresses, and promoting a healthy 5-a-day message (those ARE lemons on the dress)...

White Shirt Outfit of the Day:

  • Primark dress
  • Mum's white shirt
  • Black tights (I still don't think it's hot enough for bare legs yet!)
  • A flower hairclip from Claire's

QOTD: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

Ps. (I'm using an iPod to write this so apologies if it looks weird!)

High Street vs Designer

There's always an invisible barrier between designer fashion and High Street fashion - most of the time, you hear the whole "you can tell it's designer so you'd pay more" argument. But when it comes to white shirts, I don't think you can! Agree/disagree? Find out for yourself - these shirts range from £5 to £1089(!). Guess which one's which, then click the shirt to find out (no cheating!):

Day 1: Be seen in green

Hello :)

Although I've been doing this unofficially (well, not intentionally) for 3 days, let's call today Day 1. Officially.

White Shirt Outfit of the Day:
  • Mum's "vintage" white shirt, rolled up
  • Vintage green shirt (worn as blazer, probably intended for old women)
  • Khaki trousers from New Look
  • Bag from Marni for H&M (a newly prized possession!)
  • (Worn with trainer heels - not pictured, slightly painful)
As the days go on, you'll realise that I quite enjoy wardrobe-raiding... I've never worn or seen the green shirt in my life before and it is a colour I definitely don't usually wear. But on my morning wardrobe-hunt I thought I might give it a try and also parade my new designer(ish) handbag. It's my version of "smart-casual" and "colour-coordination". Be seen in green! That's my new motto of the day, anyway...

Til tomorrow!

The White Shirt Challenge: An introduction

Okay, I’m launching something very special, and I’ve decided to start it on here (rather than my other blogs,beview.blogspot.com or thelollipophouse.co.uk). Basically, I dug out an old vintage white shirt from House of Mother’s-Wardrobe and for the past three days I’ve been thinking up different ways to wear it. (Yes, I know you wear it by putting both arms in and doing the buttons but I’m talking skirts/blazers/heels/bags/jewellery etc). On Day 3 (today), I realised it’s actually been really fun so far, and although I’m not much of a scientist, I love an experiment. And I love a challenge. Which is why I don’t think 3 days is long enough…

The white shirt is a wardrobe staple – I wore them yoinks ago in primary school, and yoinks later they’re fantastic for work/weekends/going out and yes – even for a casual lazy outfit. When trends are constantly changing, the white shirt is the one item (as well as jeans!) that has stuck around, and always will. Especially now that the weather is too hot for your beloved grandpa jumpers, I think it’s time for the white shirt to take centre stage.

Join me for the next 30 days where, hopefully, I’ll be uploading a new white shirt outfit every day. I’m sure Mumma WhiteShirt has some more shirts lying around somewhere, and I promise I’ll do my best to be original! I’ll also do my best to find the best celebrity and street-style white shirt wearers, and high street shirts as well :)

Let the challenge begin…
